Seven Blue Streaks were top five placewinners, carrying John Carroll to a third-place finish Saturday at the National Catholic Wrestling Invitational Saturday at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Notre Dame College won the team title with 128 points, followed by Mercyhurst (95) and John Carroll, the only DIII school in the event, (82). A total of seven teams participated in this year's event.

Alhough JCU did not have any individual champions, the Blue Streaks did record victories in five of the seven matches that determined first, third and fifth place.

Senior Dan Mizener, ranked 9th in DIII, won his first two matches to reach the final of the 149-pound class. He fell in the championship to Jeff Pelton of Notre Dame. His second place finish was the highest by a Blue Streak at the 2008 National Catholic meet.

Two Blue Streaks finished in third place. Sophomore Adam Kriwinsky was 5-1 and placed third at 133 pounds. After missing all of last season, Kriwinsky was impressive in his 2008-09 debut, winning his final four matches by a combined score of 42-10.

Sophomore James Nemunaitis was also a third place finisher at 197 pounds. He won his third place match with a pin to finish the tournament 3-1.

Also placing for John Carroll was sophomore Devon Jurczak (4th at 165), freshman Bryan Steinmetz (4th at 184), senior Elie Naoum (5th at 125), freshman Clarence Semple (5th at 141), and junior Tim Lambert (5th at 285).
